Course Descriptions

WHMIS Training

This course is designed for workers who have to handle hazardous products in workplaces. This course will help workers safely manage hazardous products to ensure their safety and health. The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) is a Canada-wide system that has been designed to provide employers and workers guidelines to identify and safely manage hazardous workplace materials. It is legislated by both the federal and provincial jurisdictions and it emphasizes the fact that workers have the right to know. Under this system, employers and suppliers can provide information regarding hazardous materials in three ways: 1. Labels on containers of all hazardous materials 2. Materials safety data sheets (MSDS) providing detailed hazard and precautionary information about all materials 3.Worker education programs explaining how to use the hazardous material information.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods - Part A

This course is intended for all persons Handling, Offering and Transporting Dangerous Goods in Canada Dangerous Goods are those products and substances classified as dangerous by federal and provincial legislation. Transport of these products by air, marine, rail, and road is regulated under the federal Transport of Dangerous Goods Act, 1992. The safe handling and transportation regulations require the proper signs and labels to be used to identify all dangerous goods. The TDG Clear Language Regulations requires that any person who handles, offers for transport, or transports dangerous goods must be adequately trained and hold a training certificate. An employer must not allow an employee to handle such goods unless he/she is adequately trained to do so.

Confined Spaces

Entry into tanks and other confined spaces by workers is necessary for many industrial operations. From experience, it is well known that entry into such confined spaces may present a hazard to the worker. This course is designed to create awareness of hazards, precautions, and the regulations associated with confined spaces; it will be especially helpful for those workers whose jobs are related to permit required confined spaces. The learning objectives are to Understand confined spaces and their types, Comprehend the responsibilities of the employers and workers , Explore the major provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act , Recognize hazards associated with permit-required confined spaces and their precautions , Learn about ventilation, work permits, safety equipment, and industrial ovens, Look at the waste water hazards/ precautions (MSDS).

Forklift Safety

This course is designed for private personnel who want to enhance the safe operation of power industrial trucks in the workplace. Topics include an overview of safety standards for safe operations of Industrial trucks. The course covers the topics such as, importance of industrial power truck safety, industrial power truck operating training guidelines, and classifications of industrial power trucks.

Hazard Recognition and Assessment Training

This course is designed to provide basic information regarding hazards.  The course revolves again vital topics such as hazard recognition, hazard assessment, tools for recognizing hazard, task and process analysis, management of hazard assessment, what the law says regarding hazard in a workplace, etc.  Hazards are broken down into two types, Health and Safety.

General Safety Courses

- Lockout / Tagout

This course has been designed to provide information to employees about what lockout and tagout refers to, the general requirements for lockout and tagout devices during servicing and maintenance of machines or equipment, the purpose of lockout and tagout procedures and energy control programs and the need for effective employee training and communication in the workplace.

- Hot Work Permit Procedures

The course is designed to enable you to understand serious hazards in “special” work circumstances. The application of this procedure is intended to cover: work which contains risk of fire or explosion, work which may pose a threat, or work which poses the threat of injury/damage/loss to Company personnel, product, or property. - Accident Investigation Reporting

The focus of the program is to perform analysis, and not to find fault.  The course is developed to educate investigators about the process of Accident investigation and reporting.  The lessons give overview of Accident Investigation, Critical Injury/Fatal Investigation and Roles and Responsibilities.  The prime objective of accident investigation is prevention. Finding the causes of an accident and taking steps to control or eliminate it can help prevent similar accidents from happening in the future. Accidents can rarely be attributed to a single cause. Work environment, job constraints, and supervisory or worker experience can all play a part. These factors must be examined to determine what role each had in causing the accident.

Hazards of Asbestos

Asbestos is a substance that has been used for centuries. Its heat-resistant properties make it almost indestructible; due to this property, asbestos have been widely used in the construction industry, especially for pipe and boiler insulation. Before 1973, asbestos was sprayed onto different surfaces for fire protection purposes, but this practice was banned due to the hazardous nature of asbestos. Furthermore, it is no longer used for insulating pipes and boilers. However, asbestos can still be found in many older buildings. Those who work in construction, repair, demolition and renovations are at a greater risk of contracting asbestos-related diseases such as asbestosis, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. There is no safe level for exposure to asbestos. This course introduces the students to the hazards of asbestos in the workplace and provides information about the measures that must be taken in order to minimize the effects of exposure to asbestos.
